Early this month, Pierre-Henri Gourgeon, the chief executive of Air France, invited Airbus and Boeing to offer proposals, with prices, for perhaps 100 mid-size, long-range aircraft in the extra-wide-bodied A350 and the Boeing 787 families, to be delivered over the coming decade.
